IVCCD approves 2018-19 budget, new Orpheum Coffee Shop vendor
Monday / March 19, 2018
The Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors approved a 2018-19 budget of $49.2 million after receiving no comments during a public hearing. The District’s property tax asking next year will be reduced nearly 37 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation, which marks the 9th consecutive year that the local community college property tax asking has been decreased.
The Board also approved a new lease agreement with Leona McDonough (doing business as Heavenly Breads) to operate the Orpheum Coffee Shop beginning Mar. 15. Jacque Goodman, Vice Chancellor of Continuing Education, told the Board that the committee is very excited about the new vendor. “We received many unsolicited and complimentary comments about Leona and Heavenly Breads, and we’re hoping for a solid, long-standing relationship between her and the Orpheum.”
Four nursing instructors at the meeting were recognized by the Board for having recently been named the #1 Practical Nursing program in Iowa by PracticalNursing.org: faculty members Kathi May and Shelly Larson of Marshalltown Community College and Ann Ersland and Monica Warburton of Ellsworth Community College.
In other matters, the Board approved the 18th annual renewal of an agreement with the Solid Waste Management Commission of Marshall County for solid waste/recycling education programs and services; a 2020-21 academic and holiday calendar; and a variety of Board Policy updates. The Board also approved a reverse transfer agreement by which Ellsworth Community College will utilize the National Student Clearinghouse to facilitate the exchange of student records for students transferring from a four-year institution to complete a degree or diploma program at ECC.
Several donations were accepted by the Board, including memorabilia and supplies given by Thomas LaVille to the Orpheum Theater Center, 100 bushels of corn and 40 bushels of soybeans given by Key Cooperative to the ECC Ag Science Club, $1,500 given by the Church Women United of Iowa Falls to the Iowa Falls High School Equivalency Diploma and English as a Second Language programs, and $500 given by First United Methodist Church to fund programs and classroom/testing scholarship needs at the Iowa Valley Education & Training Center in Marshalltown.
The next meeting of the IVCCD Board will be a special session on Tuesday, Mar. 27, at 4 pm in the District Administration Building (Board Room) on the Iowa Valley/MCC campus in Marshalltown.
